Sticky Post : Introduction
Welcome to my Livejournal !
Here I'll post some (not so) awesome drawings, (too) colorful photographies, (unknown characters) cosplay progress and other random things (like telling my so passionating life).
The whole journal will be written in English, but it isn't my first language, so be understanding (and don't throw stones at me if I do some mistakes).
Some of my entries might seem a bit offensive (such as drawings with blood or disturbing concepts in texts). If you don't agree with me, it is your right. I'm OK to discuss, to debate, as long as you keep polite.
Note : You don't have to be subscribed to comment !

I finally finished a drawing that means very much to me !
Here is the version I did 2 years ago :

Well. Let's "destroy" this version.

[To see the picture in its real size : Right click > View image]
First of all, I must precise that I didn't have any kind of references to draw this (so I did the helicopters with my head, I didn't have a picture to compare, it's why they can seem a bit weird).
Whatever. Let's compare.
The anatomy is better (the character has muscles so he can fly and fight, but maybe some of the muscles I drew doesn't even exist lol). The shading is still very simple, but I used pen to shade the most important things so I consider it has some kind of soul, do you see what I mean ? The atmosphere is really different (the light comes from under the character instead of above, and the character himself is turned as if he was going to fall). There is some very experimental background (that isn't really convincing but at least I tried lol). Textures are used, but less obviously. There is a kind of perspective (see the back wing and the second helicopter).
Well, you must admit I improved !
What actually happened between those two drawings ?
I tried, and tried again.
I didn't draw very much, but I trained on special anatomical areas I didn't manage (especially the legs and the head). I tried some new things with the computer every times I colored a drawing.
But what had really a strong influence on me was a sentence my sister said to me : "Dare colors !" ("Ose les couleurs !") It's a very simple sentence, but it really helps. When I don't really know what I should do with a drawing to finish it, I remember this sentence and I dare add obvious contrast, extreme sharpness, weird colors, and so on. You should try !

Well. Let's "destroy" this version.
The anatomy is a bit strange, and there are some proportions problems (the neck seems too thick compared to the belly, the wings seems abnormally big...). The perspective doesn't exist (for instance, the back wing). The shading is a bit too simple (but it was one of my first ties, so I'm excused lol). The photo BG is too obvious (those awesome clouds are so beautiful you don't look at the character lmao).
So, I drew this again, 2 years after.

Well, I was pretty bored, so I drew without thinking too much and I played with Photoshop.
For once, the dragon seems friendly ! OwO

4 colored pen, again (because it's awesome lol).

I was bored and my school folder was so lifeless... So I decided to draw something simple, quickly done, but a bit kick ass anyway ! xD

Well, an old drawing too, but still interesting. Here are the 2 versions of 1 drawing : the sketch a bit colored and the "final" version.

I personally prefer the sketch version. The "final" version is quite interesting because I tried to draw a background and to make the light come from behind Vynh, but the sketch version is much more dynamical ; maybe I lost too much details on the "final" version.
This is why I don't erase anymore my sketches on pencil after doing the final lines (because I'm lazy, too, but it's another problem lol). Even if you can't really get your drawing realist with this system, at least you have some kind of power behind your lines.
Reasons against keeping the sketch under the final lines :
- It isn't clear, sometimes you don't know how to "read" the drawing ;
- If you do a mistake, it's awwwful.
Reasons for keeping the sketch :
- It isn't clear, and so what ? Sometimes it's very practical, for instance if you have difficulties drawing a certain part of a character ; like that viewers can't know which line is the right one and they automatically keep in mind the best one lol ;
- If you do a mistake, simply don't panic ! You can add plenty of lines to hide it xD ;
- It's much more dynamical and it has a kind of... um... soul.
I must admit it doesn't work in any case. But if you want to express yourself, drawing rage, despair or other funny feelings like that (lol) or draw a character in movement, it's probably one of the best systems.

I know this drawing is a bit old and that I already uploaded it on dA, but I really like it and I decided to post it here anyway.

It's the reference sheet of my original character, Vynhekwinalpsum (you can call him Vynh :'D). I really like him, because he's actually very easy to draw ! xD
This drawing was a genuine challenge, because of all the text in English (and complicated words lol) and I had to be as accurate as possible.
If you wonder why drawing a reference sheet is interesting :
- It's useful to remember where are some details of your character ;
- To find again the colors more quickly and accurately ;
- If some of your friends want to draw your character ;
- To make clear some details to those poor people who aren't in your head ;
- To precise background's information.
Now, technical explanations time ! xD Um... actually not really much to say. 100% Photoshop with a graphics tablet. A lot of layers. Writing police is probably Courier New, if my memory doesn't betray me. The whole sheet must have taken something like 4-5 hours, because of the huge amount of researches I had to do (especially intellectual things like the power of the bite and other stupid details like that).

(A bit wondering if anyone reads those entries I take so much time to write... xD Whatever.)
Here is the ultimate example to demonstrate that pen is awesome :

This drawing is 100% pen ! I didn't use any pencil, even for the basic sketch. :B
I pretty like this drawing ; it's simple, colored and credible.
(Oops, forgot to upload the drawing of the walkthrough I posted 2 days ago... xD Well, you'll have to wait next week !)
